NBA & TAB (Gamble Responsibly) | Origins: Melbourne

April 15th, 2023

Rules:

The following is a list of the rules under which all games at the TAB Origins tournament will be played.

  1. One game will be played over 8 minutes. The first team to score 11 points wins. A team must win by at least 2 points.
  2. If at the end of regulation time (8 minutes), a team holds a lead of at least 2 points, they are deemed the winner. If a 2-point (or more) lead is not held by a team (ie there is a 1-point lead or the game is a tie), the game will go into “Overtime” and scores reset to nil-nil.

    In Overtime, the first team to score 2 points will be deemed the winner. Possession of the ball to begin overtime goes to either:

    • The team leading the game at the end of regulation time. Or;
    • If the game is a tie, the team who had possession of the ball at the end of regulation time.
  3. 1 point is awarded for a goal inside the “3-point” arc. 2 points are awarded for a goal outside the “3-point” arc.
  4. Fouls and violations will be adjudicated by a referee. If a foul is called during the course of the game, possession goes to the team that was fouled. Shooting fouls will be administered the same way (ie no free throws).
  5. A coin flip shall decide first possession.
  6. If a defending team gains possession of the ball following a turn-over or rebound, the ball must be ‘cleared’ by taking it beyond the 3-point arc before a basket can be scored. Failure to do so will result in the other team gaining possession of the ball from the “top of the key”. The ball must be “checked” before play resumes.
  7. After scoring, the opposing team gains possession of the ball at the “top of the key”. The ball must be “checked” before play resumes.
  8. The half-court line and all other boundary lines will be considered out of bounds. In the case of an out-of-bounds ball, possession goes to the team that did not touch the ball last. If the ball passes out-of-bounds over a boundary line, the ball is “checked” and play resumes by way of an inbound pass from a location on the boundary line chosen by the referee. If the ball passes out-of-bounds over the half-court line, the ball is “checked” and play resumes from the “top of the key”.
  9. All on-court decisions made by the adjudicating referee are final and not open for discussion.
